Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information I collect through davidleechef.com, why, and what I do with it. “I” and “me” means David Lee.

What I collect

  • When you join my email list: your first name and email address.
  • When you use the contact form: your name, email address and message.
  • When you visit the site: information about your visit, such as the pages you view, your browser and device, and your approximate location (city or region). This comes from Google Analytics and from the website’s hosting and security services.

I don’t ask for sensitive information, and I’d ask you not to send it through the contact form.

Why I collect it

  • To send you the emails you signed up for: my take on small business and hospitality, new writing, and where I’m speaking next.
  • To reply to your enquiry about speaking, media, consulting or private chef services.
  • To understand which pages people read, so I can improve the site.
  • To keep the site secure and working.

Emails and unsubscribing

I only email people who have signed up. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also reply and ask me to remove you. I’ll stop emailing you once you unsubscribe.

Who else handles your information

I use a small number of service providers to run the site and my email list:

  • Stratify (built on GoHighLevel), to store my email list and send emails, with Mailgun delivering them;
  • Google Analytics, to measure visits to the site;
  • Kinsta and Cloudflare, to host the website and protect it.

Some of these providers store information on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. I choose established providers and only share what each one needs to do its job.

I don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information, and I don’t share my email list with any other person, business or organisation.

Cookies

Google Analytics uses cookies to tell new visits from return visits. The sign-up form and the site’s security services may also set cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.

How long I keep it

I keep your email list details until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. I keep enquiries in my email inbox for as long as I need them to deal with your request and for my records. Google Analytics data is kept according to Google’s standard settings.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email hello@davidleechef.com and I’ll respond within 30 days.

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please contact me first so I can put it right. If you’re still not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

If I change how I handle personal information, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
